Can kids follow the Sunnah?
Mind of a seven-year kid is far sharper in learning than the mind of an adult. A child's brain is completely fresh and there is no other useless material inside it that is why whatever to put into a child's mind, because of the quickness of neurons (brain cell) they learn anything very easily and quickly. If we trained our kids bound by Sunnah from childhood, they can follow it very well. If parents nurture their children in Islamic education from their childhood and teach them Sunnah, so when they are growing up in such an environment where their parents themselves follow the Sunnah, then they will grow up to follow the same practices as Holy prophet (SAW) did.
Here are some simple yet great reminders for teaching your kids how they follow the Sunnah. To raise your kids in accordance with Islam is very important.
1. Say Salam to everyone
Saying Salam is a source of remission of sins. Children should be taught from the beginning that when they meet someone, they should be the first to greet the other person whether they are Muslim, Non-Muslim or belonging to any sect or creed.
- Say Salam to everyone.
- Greet whoever you meet first with your right hand.
- Children should teach that greeting creates mutual love and understanding.
- If a child greets someone first, he/she will get thirty virtues in return.
2.Using etiquettes while eating or drinking
- Recite the Dua for eating together (simplify it for the littlest ones).
- Eat/drink while sitting down and using your right hand.
- Eat what is in front of you, first, rather than reaching out and over.
- Chew your food properly and try not to talk while doing so.
- Avoid eating food that is too hot and rather wait for it to cool down, instead of blowing over it.
- Take as much as you can eat and not waste food.
- Drink water in three sips or more, but not in one gulp.
- Say Alhamdulillah - all praise and thanks be to Allah - when done eating/drinking.
3.Adopting good behavior
1.Always begin with Bismillah- in the name of Allah.
2.Greet others with respect, preferably a smile, because it is considered a charity.
3.Greet Muslim family members and friends with Salaams.
4. Respond properly to Salaams when they are extended to you, as it is an obligation.
5.Be mindful of the tongue and use the best speech and kind words.
6. Speak the truth (Parents be careful to allow children to admit and own up to their mistakes as it will discourage them from lying about the transgressions.)
- 4.Observing sleeping routines
- It is advisable to dust the bed, before getting into it.
- Recite the Dua for sleeping.
